Meet Revolights City v2.0
We’ve listened to your feedback, and have designed Revolights City v2.0 to be compatible with deeper-V wheel sets and available to international cyclists.
The arcs of light are formed by LEDs programmed to detect your speed and blink on as they pass the front or rear of the bicycle.

SECURE INSTALLATION
Snap the clips onto the spokes and attach the spacers with screws. Align the mounting brackets, screw the Revolights onto the spacers, and run the wires toward the hub. Install the batteries, align the magnets, and you’re ready to ride! For more info, check out the installation videos at instructions.revolights.com.
Revolights ensure maximum safety by providing both lighting and sighting in one fully-integrated, revolutionary design.
LIGHTING
Revolights provide cyclists with superior lighting by fully illuminating the path in
front of them.
Light Pattern
Unlike traditional headlights which focus light to a single location, Revolights throw a uniquely even and wide vertical swath of light in front of the rider, illuminating not only the ground but road signs and elevated obstacles.
Road Obstacle Illumination
The low origin of the light also creates a unique "height shadow" effect, where the height of obstacles in the road can be determined by the length of their shadows.
SIGHTING
Unlike traditional bike lights, which project light in only one direction, Revolights cast 360 degrees of illumination, making it much easier for others to sight the rider. This improves safety tremendously, as most nighttime bike-car collisions are due to inadequate side visibility.

Late in 2010, Kent was chatting with Adam about an idea he had for a new kind of bike light. He pulled out his phone and played a video of an early prototype. “Dude,” said Adam, immediately impressed. “We should start a business.”
Adam and his team began to draft a business plan, secure copyrights, and get the word out while Kent continued to develop and refine his innovative prototype.
Initial project funding was achieved via a kick-ass Kickstarter campaign, with over 1,400 generous supporters—including hundreds of Yellow Jersey backers giving a total of $215,621.
The Revolights Founders grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where innovation is the norm. Adam and Kent are excited to make their revolutionary lights available to cyclists worldwide. They hope to provide safer roads for riders and drivers alike, and to push the market toward more forward-thinking, safety-minded products.
Our Kickstarter backers made Revolights possible. A special thanks goes to our 358 Yellow Jersey backers for donating $250 or more to support the revolution:

When will the Revolights bike lighting system be available internationally?
We are currently selling to North America and select European countries. Each country has its own set of rules and regulations. As a new product, it’s important that Revolights strictly adhere to these regulations. We’ll share our plans as we finalize them.
For Revolights international expansion and availability, follow along on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr for updates.
How much does it cost, and where can I buy it?
The Revolights City v2.0 bike lighting system will retail for $229 USD + S&H + VAT on European destinations. Revolights are available only at revolights.com.
How long does a battery charge last?
About 4 hours in the front; longer in back. Revolights are shipped with 1100mAh batteries. Eight LEDs sink about 250mA total during operation, making for about 4 hours of runtime.
Have you considered wheel rotation as the power source?
Absolutely. We are currently using rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries because they are a particularly efficient way to power LEDs. We also designed our own battery pack in order to maximize efficiency.
That said, we are firm believers that the energy created by wheel rotation is a sustainable, environmentally friendly power source. We have plans to incorporate dynamo power in the future.
How easily can Revolights be stolen?
Preventing thievery was an important consideration during the design phase. Because Revolights consist of a solid-ring body welded together during fabrication, the wheel must be removed from the bike in order to remove the Revolights. When you lock up your bike and wheels, you’re also locking up your Revolights!
Do the lights still blink when at rest like they did in the original video?
Long story short, Revolights no longer make “disco patterns” while at rest. When properly installed, the white lights will always shine forward, and the red lights will always shine backward.
The original Revolights demo video depicted Revolights Prototype version 4 (or Pv4). We received a great deal of feedback regarding the dynamic lighting pattern created when the wheels were at rest. After significant testing and product development, we decided on a static lighting pattern for the wheels when at rest. Revolights Version 6 (the production version) uses an integrated accelerometer to allow the rings to index gravity at low speeds and form “arcs,” even when your bike is stopped.
Do the lights flicker when the bike is moving, like they seem to in the
original video?
The blinking lights in the original Revolights demo video is an effect caused by the camera’s inability to capture video at such a high rate of speed (frames/second). The human eye sees only a solid arc due to a phenomenon called persistence of vision.
How bright is the headlight (in lumens)?
There are a total of 24 LEDs on each wheel, 8 of which of are lit up at any given moment. Each LED is rated at over 35 lumens, but since our LEDs are continually rotating and lumens are a unit of flux (light/area) the most accurate description would be:
Revolights brightness = 8 LEDs x 35 lumens ea.
Can Revolights handle snow conditions and extreme cold?
We went to great lengths to design the Revolights bike lighting system to stand up to wet conditions. The electronics are fully sealed and coated, effectively isolating them from the environment. That said, exposure to salt or alkaline dust on the roads creates issues for most electronics, Revolights included. Lithium batteries can also slow their discharge rate during long-term exposure to extreme cold.
